This bilingual Salvadoran poetry anthology seeks to challenge the traditional concept of nationality and explore the diverse identities that coexist in the world of Salvadoran poetry. Considering the blurring of identities and the elasticity of national borders, Kalina not only introduces the work of poets that reside in El Salvador and write in Spanish; it is also an exposition of the work of poets that have emigrated and write in the language of their adopted country. The poems offer both Spanish-speaking and English-speaking readers an array of linguistic, thematic and aesthetic contrasts and likenesses. The first of its kind, this anthology will provide an opportunity for Salvadoran poets and Salvadoran-American poets to establish a poetic dialogue amongst themselves and with the poetic community at large.

The novel conveys the experiences of war through a fantastical, even mythical, rendering of the documentary form. Although mired in, in the protagonist's words, feces and trash, there is a truth here. It is a truth that unfixes space, enabling distant sites to intermingle; that unfolds non-linearly, making time collapse in on itself; that lies below the ground and under the skin. Betrayals, wounds, and trauma disrupt the distinction between interiority and exteriority, such that, in the novel, violence places out in bodily topography, psychic space, and language itself.
UNDERGROUND UNDERGRADS

This student publication, Underground Undergrads: UCLA Undocumented Immigrant Students Speak Out, features the growing immigrant youth movement around access to higher education and immigrant integration. Written by the students themselves, eight moving stories of undocumented immigrant youth from UCLA provide the focal point of Underground Undergrads. The stories are unique and diverse, but they all demonstrate the pain, financial hardship, and emotional distress these students face as well as their ultimate triumph when they graduate from UCLA. Underground Undergrads also serves as an educational and research tool by providing a summary of the history of legislation impacting undocumented students in higher education as well as a resource guide of organizations that advocate for student rights.

Most of the poems are carried by raw emotion alone, and like most of the WAR SURVIVOR-poets Escobar was words is not poetry but rather tears. He witness so much hurt that he could not maintain his silence any longer.
